Our renovation of this Carroll Gardens townhouse was completed in two phases. In the first, we focused on the upper levels, converting three through-floor apartments into a single residence with plenty of classic, timeless Brooklyn charm. Both phases were completed by the client's long-term general contractor, MLZ General Construction, Inc.
The parlor floor became a quintessential Brooklyn entertainment space, with a formal living room at the front, large dining room for frequent dinner parties, and a full-width kitchen with plenty of prep space. Large openings create spaces with designated programming that feels connected as one level.
Art Advisor Amy Snyder selected a large photograph from Matthew Brandt's Lakes and Reservoirs series, bringing a bold pop of color into the dining room.
In phase 2 of the renovation, the family wanted to convert a garden-level apartment into a luxe space perfect for hosting guests and entertaining while meeting the family's practical needs. We worked alongside Kate Gray of Hamilton Gray studio to create a garden level that was both highly polished and cozy.
Throughout the garden floor, a color palette of rich jewel tones, calming hues, and elevated finishes create visual interest and plenty of spaces to curl up and relax.
The walls of the guest bedroom are covered with Gucci Tian print wallpaper, paired with warm furnishings and exposed beams to create a peaceful and cohesive space from floor to ceiling.
At the rear of the house, we adjusted an existing rear addition in both phases. During phase 1, we added a parlor-level addition on top of the existing garden-level addition. During phase 2, we extended the garden level addition, dug out eight feet of the rear yard, and added an outdoor kitchen perfect for entertaining.
A murphy bed allows this room to double as an informal space for the family to hang out and a guest bedroom.
