Indoor-Outdoor Connections in Amagansett

Design

We were lucky to be able to collaborate with the longtime owners of this beautiful, modern home in Amagansett.

They came to us wanting to create additional space in their home for their extended family, which now includes grandchildren.

The house sits behind a meandering driveway in the Lanes, creating a sense of seclusion and strong connection to nature. A desire to create a space that felt like an oasis surrounded by forest anchored our design process.

We took the opportunity to create a strong indoor-outdoor connection via massive expanses of glass from Loewen, which connect the kitchen, family room, and other spaces to the pool and the surrounding yard. Sliding glass doors lead out to the pool deck, allowing for sweeping views from inside the house and easy access to the rear yard. The result is a space that feels comfortable for individuals, for family time, and for entertaining both inside and outside.

Another interesting design requirement was to create an owners' suite that felt separate from the entertainment spaces but was still part of the main structure. We achieved this via an open, modern staircase and glass-filled atrium connecting both areas of the home. Beyond its functional purpose, the atrium is an interesting visual element from both within and outside the house.

We're grateful to the entire team who made the project such a success. Partnering with BIA Interiors and the client family, with whom we've worked previously, ensured that the final result met all functional requirements without sacrificing beauty. The contractor, Shoshi Builders, and their team, brought in a number of incredible artisans. One of the elements that pulled everything together was collaboration with Sterling Tree & Lawn Service, who has a long history with the property.
